Healing Just Like a Flower Grows
Alyssa's mother Sheryl brought Alyssa into my office last November because she had been suffering with headaches nearly continuously for six weeks. She was only 12 years old. They worsened at night after going to bed and were interfering with her sleep, exercise, and daily routine so dramatically that her mother removed her from school to a home study program.
Her medical doctor assessed her, and then referred Alyssa to a neurologist. Multiple MRIs of her head revealed nothing. Her orthodontist removed her braces as a possible solution without benefit. She tried various over the counter pain medications as well as sinus drugs.
None of these efforts proved to shed any light on the cause of her condition nor provide any answers or lasting relief.
When Sheryl was at a loss for ideas, a more open-minded health professional who was familiar with the gentle power and uniqueness of my work, referred her to our office.
During our consultation, neither Alyssa nor her mom could recall any clear injury or obvious stress factors which might have resulted in her pain problem. However, that isn't uncommon. The provoking stressors are often cumulative but unnoticed.
X-rays demonstrated a complete loss of the normal forward curve in her neck coupled with a marked misalignment of her neck and head. This combination is a common source of both increased muscle tension in the neck and referred pain up into the head.
The computerized nervous system interference assessment showed severe muscular hyperactivity, especially in the neck and upper back. A significant distortion of her posture and restriction of spinal motion were also discovered. This was all associated with a nervous system under great stress! Nobody else had paid attention to these important health factors before moving straight to the MRI.
Once I was able to connect Alyssa's head pain with multiple manifestations of disturbed spinal and nervous system function, and share my confidence that I could help her get better, they were excited to initiate a corrective care plan of gentle, non-manipulative, instrument adjustments.
She started feeling much better right away, and within a few weeks Alyssa was nearly headache-free! After all of the painful misery, medical/orthodontic expenses, school disruption, and family fear, they had achieved both an understanding of and solution to her debilitating condition.
How much was that worth to restore her quality of life?
Where would Alyssa be now if they hadn't been referred in to my office for help? What would the next radical proposal have been?
Last month we contrasted curing and healing. We said that healing was a return toward greater wholeness in body, mind, or spirit versus curing focusing solely upon eliminating the pain or other appearances of an illness condition.
How did Alyssa heal?
How does a flower grow?
Not by attaching petals, pistil, and stamens from the outside amongst a bunch of leaves. Instead, flowers beautifully emerge and grow from within the plant! They seem to appear from nowhere but they were always part of the design, awaiting the right moment to display themselves. It is in the nature of specific plants to flower.
What is inside will express outwardly as long as there is no interference.
Likewise, it is our God-given nature to be whole, healthy, vibrant, and enthusiastic. Indeed, we are continually challenged by an ever-changing and frequently hostile environment. However, within our design is the amazing capacity to self-regulate and constructively adapt to a broad array of powerful antagonistic forces.
This incredible ability is organized and accomplished through an inner wisdom or intelligence. It purposefully orchestrates all the subtle physiology that permits us to continually thrive amidst adversity.
Contemporary science continues to progress in its understanding of the multitude of molecules transmitting intelligent information throughout our body. It is this consistent flow of awareness and response chemistry like a river cascading through us that permits ongoing healing restoration from the inside out, just like that growing flower.
Perfect healing from within - as long as there is no interference. That blocking interference was located and released from Alyssa's spine and nervous system and her natural high-level quality of life returned.
