(Excerpted from Dr. Norton’s soon to be published book: Where Does It Hurt?  Surprising Stories and Transforming Insights for Releasing Pain and Restoring Whole Body Health)

Doctors don’t heal people. Rather it’s the doctor’s job to first do no harm and secondly to help facilitate the patient’s self-healing. It’s important for doctors not to overly impose their will, but rather work with the healing energy and efforts of their patient’s body.

<Health Transforming Insight>

You were designed to live free of ongoing limitation or confinement, unobstructed and capable of unrestricted movement. The image should not be one of you in chains but rather sailing through most of your days with the wind at your back.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your natural state is health, which is the optimal functioning of your body, mind, and spirit. This involves a continuous smooth flow of energy and intelligent information throughout your system, which allows you to respond with relative ease to life’s continual challenges.

Your nervous system is the director or conductor of your body symphony. Billions of messages run every second up and down the information superhighway of your spinal cord carrying perceptions to your brain and instructions for how to respond back out to your muscles and organs to keep you dynamic and thriving. This is like the central heating and air conditioning system in your home. You set the thermostat for your optimum comfort and then it senses the temperature deviations from the set point and kicks into action to restore the ideal.

Ongoing pain represents a partial blockage to the energy flow through your body. That obstruction makes joy more difficult and initiates many long-term consequences for your health on all levels. I will develop that idea more later.

Short-term or acute pain serves an important, even life-saving purpose and we’ll explore that in the next chapter. However, chronic or ongoing pain is like trying to hang up the phone after you have gotten the message, but you can’t seem to disconnect and get back to the dial tone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<Pain Perspective>

Chronic pain is a stuck dysfunctional pattern that becomes memorized by your brain and nervous system. It tells a story about past injuries and emotionally distressing life events that you aren’t free to move forward from. Your body and mind simply keep replaying the tape repeatedly without relief.

Healing Hints

  1. Are you successfully working with your doctors to discern your body’s indications of underlying imbalance? Are you then pursuing strategic corrective measures to restore balance or simply smothering your symptomatic cries for help with medication? It’s so important to respect and assist the innate healing wisdom within you rather than overwhelm it with force.

  2. Has your vitality and motivation been fading lately? Are you thinking as clearly as you need to? Are you hurting and getting sick too often and taking longer to recover? Have you been overly anxious or depressed and aren’t even certain why? Could it be that many of the instructional transmissions traveling along your spinal cord information superhighway are getting scrambled and impeded? This state may be interfering with your ability to optimally and rapidly adapt to your constantly changing and frequently hostile environment?

  3. Look to your sleep, diet, nutritional supplementation, exercise, and stress levels for answers of course, but have you had your nervous system evaluated recently? It does run the whole show of your physiology. This may be the single most misunderstood issue in creating and sustaining health and well-being. Do you truly understand the pain and health ramifications of a disturbed nervous system?

  4. Is your pain informing you about new injuries and tissue damage or are you continuing to experience the chronically painful consequences of old injuries and overwhelming stresses that were never adequately detected and corrected? The unresolved condition underlying your pain will only get worse until the damage becomes permanent. Ignoring or masking these warnings will often create a situation where pain becomes debilitating and never goes away. The nervous system disturbance also sabotages your other key internal systems leading to illness and disease.

  5. Don’t wait any longer! Schedule a simple, inexpensive spine and nervous system evaluation for yourself and your family today. Invest some time and money into caring for your health now or you may end up paying dearly on many levels later. Call 559-490-9550 to find out about our free educational classes. If you attend first and learn more about our work and how it may help you, we will offer you a NO-COST/NO OBLIGATION evaluation to find out exactly what your nervous system status is. Call 559-490-9550 today.
