[Read Part 1 Here]
(Excerpted from Dr. Norton’s soon to be published book: Where Does It Hurt? Surprising Stories and Transforming Insights for Releasing Pain and Restoring Whole Body Health)
Doctors don’t heal people. Rather it’s the doctor’s job to first do no harm and secondly to help facilitate the patient’s self-healing. It’s important for doctors not to overly impose their will, but rather work with the healing energy and efforts of their patient’s body.

<Health Transforming Insight>
You were designed to live free of ongoing limitation or confinement, unobstructed and capable of unrestricted movement. The image should not be one of you in chains but rather sailing through most of your days with the wind at your back.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your natural state is health, which is the optimal functioning of your body, mind, and spirit. This involves a continuous smooth flow of energy and intelligent information throughout your system, which allows you to respond with relative ease to life’s continual challenges.
Your nervous system is the director or conductor of your body symphony. Billions of messages run every second up and down the information superhighway of your spinal cord carrying perceptions to your brain and instructions for how to respond back out to your muscles and organs to keep you dynamic and thriving. This is like the central heating and air conditioning system in your home. You set the thermostat for your optimum comfort and then it senses the temperature deviations from the set point and kicks into action to restore the ideal.
Ongoing pain represents a partial blockage to the energy flow through your body. That obstruction makes joy more difficult and initiates many long-term consequences for your health on all levels. I will develop that idea more later.
Short-term or acute pain serves an important, even life-saving purpose and we’ll explore that in the next chapter. However, chronic or ongoing pain is like trying to hang up the phone after you have gotten the message, but you can’t seem to disconnect and get back to the dial tone.

<Pain Perspective>
Chronic pain is a stuck dysfunctional pattern that becomes memorized by your brain and nervous system. It tells a story about past injuries and emotionally distressing life events that you aren’t free to move forward from. Your body and mind simply keep replaying the tape repeatedly without relief.
