Spinal / Nervous System Corrective Care

Option #1:  Basic Temporary Correction – Beginning the Journey to Healing

This phase of care will typically eliminate or at least markedly diminish pain and other symptoms. The purpose of this care option is to achieve a generally subluxation-free state (corrected spinal structure mostly free of critical nervous system interference).  This involves a return toward body balance and the creation of some stability. It will begin to release the blocked flow of energy and information communication through the body. This is somewhat like clearing the debris from a stream permitting stagnant pools to be refreshed.

This is the beginning of the journey to healing, back toward the natural state of wholeness.  This care will often begin to make increased energy, vitality and enthusiasm available. It will also commonly initiate the process of liberation from anxiety and depression. This can occur because the flow of chemicals associated with positive emotions is facilitated.

The basic correction phase of spinal care can be compared to the braces phase of orthodontics.  The focus is upon structural and functional correction versus band-aid relief of pain. Pain relief will naturally follow correction of the cause. Over twenty years of experience has led me to conclude that the approach that provides only a few pain management treatments doesn’t serve the ultimate health needs of my patients. It can lull people into assuming they are well when only the edge of pain is off.

Our work differs from orthodontics in several ways.  The process is much shorter, much less expensive, and we don’t hook corrective gear on your body.  Possibly the most important difference is that orthodontic care is most often for visual cosmetic purposes.  This is in contrast to spinal/nervous system correction having whole body/whole life health ramifications.

The Basic Correction requires very frequent adjustments (since we don’t have braces to attach) for a minimum of six weeks.  Re-examinations highlighted by the computerized nervous system assessments are conducted at the three and six week points to verify progress toward correction. It is possible in difficult cases following injuries or when the condition has been longstanding with degenerative changes that the corrective phase can last up to several months.  The healing process and time frame expectations are uniquely individual and must be evaluated case by case.

The basic correction is completed when the following occurs:  Initial pain or other symptoms are eliminated or at least significantly reduced and the objective measurements of subluxation (spinal misalignment coupled with nervous system interference) have been mostly resolved.

The Initial Office Visit:

We begin with a personal consultation with Dr. Norton to determine your individual needs and health goals.  This is followed by a thorough evaluation taking your entire spine and nervous system into account and not simply your areas of chief complaint.  We often locate disturbances that others have missed that can hold the key to successful health restoration.

The central diagnostic elements are the computerized nervous system assessment and precision biomechanical x-rays to determine areas of subluxation and functional compromise.  Initial educational information is provided for home review in anticipation of the second visit. The intake history form can be downloaded from this site and completed prior to the first visit, which shortens the in-office paperwork time. Click here to download the history form.

The Second Office Visit:

This session begins with a brief preparatory educational video followed by a complete relating of examination findings by Dr. Norton.  This is correlated with your stated complaints, concerns, and health goals.  Dr. Norton explains the significance of your condition and his anticipated ability to assist in facilitating your recovery and healing.  He then explains in depth the two game plan options for your consideration.  If you choose to work with us to achieve your goals, then care is initiated at this time.

Approximately three weeks into the basic correction program, a specific home exercise and rehabilitation regimen is demonstrated and provided to advance and expedite healing.

Option #2 Advanced Health Restoration Care

Once a temporary correction has been achieved, then the option is available to continue spinal/nervous system care on a reduced frequency basis (approx. 1-4 adjustments per month, as needed and desired). The focus is upon health restoration at a deeper level.  This is like retainers on teeth after the braces are removed in the orthodontic analogy.

This approach option prevents strong longstanding patterns from returning, especially as new life stresses occur.  It stabilizes the correction and protects your health investment.  This phase promotes deeper soft tissue restoration and higher levels of nervous system reintegration thus optimizing your health potential. Re-examinations continue to be conducted at twelve visit intervals to measure ongoing improvement or changes with new injuries and high stress phases of life.

It is during the months to years of regular intermittent care that the most powerful examples of healing from various illnesses and diseases have been observed. This is also when the most significant enhancements of performance and bodymind well being are noted. How long you choose to benefit from advanced wellness chiropractic care is always up to you.
